Our First Lady

Lady Betty Gay “Apple Blossom” Dillard

Hello and Welcome,

My name is Betty Gay Dillard; affectionately called by the Bishop “Apple Blossom”. I have been a member of Second Baptist Church, also known as “SBC” for 35 years. I consider SBC as my second family. What I like about SBC is there’s a lot of love demonstrated; it’s a caring family church. I have had the opportunity to discover my gifts working in several ministries:

Choirs – Being able to deliver God’s Word in song is such a privilege. I tell you what a thrill it is to touch people’s lives with encouraging words of song. While in the choir you are able to develop long-lasting relationships with other members.

Pantry Ministry - For 5 years I worked with the Pantry Ministry feeding and clothing the hungry in the community.

Praise Team - I had the awesome privilege of evangelizing in South Africa. Their style of worship is so heartfelt, I felt lead to come back and begin a Praise and Worship Team here at SBC. With the permission from the Bishop this ministry has grown and flourished. Also while in South Africa I had the opportunity to teach a class to women of all ages.

SWAT (Soul Winning Action Team) – From 1974 to 2007 I was an active member of the SWAT Team which evangelizes to the community at large.

Teacher – As a Church School Teacher I affectionately call my students “Tiny Treasures.” That is exactly what they are, young people to be taught and treasured. When I watch them grow up and go off to college I get pleasure knowing I had a small part in their Christian development and growth.

United Women’s Fellowship Guild – I have been a part of the Women’s Guild since its conception. This is where women of the fellowship and community come together and share in Christian love and demonstrate concern for one another.

Wife – As the wife of the Bishop I have had so many opportunities to travel, visit the sick and shut-in, counsel the bereaved, and just being there when and where I’m needed. God has afforded me the privilege of knowing that the Bishop is my Ministry. My life structure is God first, family and the work of the church.

Mother – Our 5 children are such a blessing to our lives. One lives with the Lord; and I have a terrific, smart and handsome grandson. It’s a blessing from God that our children are very much involved in the ministries of the church; yes, including Dylan-LaRue. Another honor has been being a surrogate mother to many young people who are either transplants or whose mom is living in heaven. Ironically enough, there are those who are older than I who call me Mom; I truly get a kick out of it. For many years we have opened our home to members who did not have family living in California for Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner.

I love my church family and I cannot see being affiliated with any other church. Our church family is such a warm loving family that I invite you and anyone to worship with us. You cannot find a better church family than Second Baptist Church.

I hope to see you soon!
